COP28 marked a milestone for the Water Youth Network, as we organized a session at the COP Resilience Hub entitled Water and Nature Resilience in the Climate Era: Innovative, Holistic and Effective Governance alongside Arup, Global Water Partnership, Climate Resilient Infrastructure Development Facility (CRIDF), United Nations Water, and Indian Institute for Human Settlements.
The session opened with a keynote speech by Yoko Lu (YOUNGO and Global Youth Coalition), followed by a moderated discussion with Sofia Corradi and Ryan D. Phillip featuring the speakers Billie Dumaliang (Masungi Georeserve Foundation, Philippines), Asha Msoka (Global Water Partnership, Tanzania) and Felix Ngamlagosi (Zambezi Watercourse Commission).
Focusing on governance and the challenges associated, key takeaways from the session include:
– Transparency and information sharing: increased transparency in Watershed Management Plans and access to information on different projects.
– Involving local communities: including indigenous groups in decision-making processes about their natural resources.
– Youth Engagement: capacitating, empowering, and engaging youth in shaping innovative solutions for water-related issues.
Amidst these discussions, Jessica Harwood visually harvested these conversations.
