This is a call for youth to present their good practices, knowledge and expertise through various opportunities at the 7th Global Platform on DRR (GPDRR). The GPDRR, as recognised by the UN General Assembly, is the main forum at the global level for strategic advice, coordination, partnership development and the review of progress in the implementation of international instruments on disaster risk reduction. It was established in 2006 and is now the world’s foremost gathering of stakeholders committed to reducing disaster risk and building the resilience of communities and nations.
The 2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction will be held in Cancun, Mexico on 22-26 May.
It will mark the first opportunity for the international community to review global progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, which was adopted in Japan in 2015. More than 5,000 participants are expected to attend, ranging from policy makers to DRR practitioners; humanitarian responders to young scientists.
The UN MGCY is the official and UN General Assembly-mandated space for young people to contribute to various United Nations processes. Our engagement will span various avenues, from a one-day dedicated pre-forum for youth to network, learn and share good DRR practices, to a side event, ignite stage and exhibition.
We are looking for YOUTH, YOUNG PRACTITIONERS and YOUNG SCIENTISTS who have relevant experience in strengthening resilience for and with young people who can share their good practices, knowledge and experiences in DRR, with particular reference to the Sendai Framework.
