Speech AIF2: Anthony Tobes

About Anthony Tobes: Anthony, 22, is from Barangay San Fernando, Basey, Eastern Samar, Philippines. After undergoing a series of training under Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), he serves model in his community for his commitment to organic farming and personal advocacy to encourage more youth in agriculture.

My name is Anthony Tobes. I live in San Fernando, Samar. I would like to send a message to all of society.

I come from a poor family. Where I live in, we have to find ways to be able to acquire water because there’s not enough of it.

Given our situation, free water would help farmers like us expand our farmlands and increase our yield.

Government subsidy to improve irrigation would also help us face the challenges brought by climate change, such as the challenges we face when there’s a typhoon.

I believe that through free or subsidized irrigation water, one can see the government’s sincerity in helping Filipino farmers.

That is why I am in favor of free or subsidized water, to help us make progress, see a bright future, and have greater success in our farming. And as a result, to also have a greater chance to continue our education.

Our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, once said: The youth is the hope of our future. Long live young farmers!
