WYN in WASH: Clean and Safe Water Outreach Program in Uganda

By: Johnson Katuura

Johnson Katuura, our Water Youth Network’s WASH coordinator, led a capacity-building event titled “Clean and Safe Water Outreach Program” on May 1, 2024, in Mityana District, Uganda. The event aimed to address the pressing issue of water-related diseases by focusing on raising awareness and promoting effective WASH practices within remote communities.

During the outreach program, Johnson conducted an engaging class on good WASHpractices at a rural primary school, emphasizing crucial habits such as handwashing with soap and consuming only safe, clean water. Through interactive displays and drawings, the event effectively conveyed the importance of these practices to children, instilling lasting habits for a healthier future. Additionally, Johnson and his team donated a ceramic water purification machine to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water, furthering commitment to improving community health and well-being. Together, Johnson and the WASH team took meaningful steps towards combating water-related diseases and fostering a culture of hygiene and sanitation in underserved areas.
